Join Us In The Desert

Hello. We are Michael and Sarah Parmenter. We are following the call of God to serve in Kingman, Arizona in church planting ministry. We would love to share with you what God has been doing in our lives, and how He has been leading us to be a part of His mission.

How we got where we are

We graduated from Frontier School of the Bible in the spring of 2014 and got married that fall. We moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, intending to launch from there into missions work in the Czech Republic. Our time in Cedar Rapids was longer than we had originally planned, and during that time, we began to re-evaluate our desires. I (Michael) began coming to the conclusion that God had gifted me particularly to preach and be a pastor. I wasn’t sure that serving overseas would make the best use of those gifts. After talking together we realized we both felt God was changing our direction, and began pursuing a ministry as a pastor in the states. This was an especially difficult decision for me (Michael), as the Czech Republic had been on my heart for many years.

Ultimately, the world is filled with spiritual needs, and spiritually needy people. Ultimately, we cannot meet even one of these needs. Only God can meet the needs of people’s souls, and we can simply be used by Him in His work. In this next phase of our lives, He has led us to church planting ministry.

God has opened a door for us to work with a church planting organization called Rockies Southwest Bible Church Extension (RSBCE). They are an agency associated with the IFCA church fellowship that plants churches in the vicinity of Arizona, Colorado, and some surrounding areas. We’re excited to work with the people at RSBCE. We can see their heart for serving Jesus Christ and for reaching the spiritually lost through church planting.

The Spiritual Desert

In John chapter 4, Jesus met a woman in Samaria. He asked her for a drink, using that opportunity to offer her “living water.” She responded, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water?” She was still thinking about physical water to meet her physical needs. But Jesus was talking about quenching her spiritual thirst. He said, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Buck, a person I met from our target church in Kingman, related how he provided bottled water for a homeless person on a hot day. In the Arizona heat, that water was a valuable gift. But Buck went on to offer the person “living water.” Then he handed the person a bible.

So many people today are looking just to quench their physical thirst, but spiritually they are bone dry. Only Jesus can offer relief, a water that gives lasting satisfaction and eternal life. Jesus died the death of a criminal, and took upon Himself the punishment for all of our sins. The Bible says that whoever trusts in Him and His sacrifice for salvation trades eternal judgment for eternal life with Him.

Many people in America still don’t understand their need for Christ’s living water. That is why we still need people to plant churches here which can reach out to people who don’t have Christ.

Target: Kingman

God has led us to minister in dry Arizona, so the imagery of the spiritual desert is very vivid. We have seen the need in Kingman, and the opportunities that come with it. Into this dry land God has placed Kingman Bible Church, and we are excited to help this church share the love of Christ with this community

Kingman Bible Church was planted in 2011. It began as a home bible study, then having services in a storefront, and then finally about a year later moving into their own building. Kingman Bible Church is a small church placed by God’s design in a poor and needy part of town. There are many needs there and many opportunities to show the love of Christ.

Jerry and Bobbie Adams

Pastor Adams and RSBCE have been praying for someone to come alongside and help this ministry, and eventually to take up the work, as Pastor Jerry is older and will eventually need to retire. This is where we come in.

We are excited to move to Kingman and do our part in meeting the need. There truly is a need for a church with solid Bible teaching that will share the Gospel with the people of Kingman. We don’t know yet all of the ministries we will be involved with, but we are trusting in God to show us where He wants us to be used.

How you can take part

God wants every one of us to help bring the living water of Jesus Christ to dry and needy hearts. We believe that God has sent us to the desert of Kingman Arizona, and if you want to be a part of that, we’d love to have you on board. What can you do to help?

· Follow our Journey:

Contact us if you’d like to receive our newsletter. You can also follow us on our Facebook page or our website.

· Pray for us

1 Corinthians 3:7 says, “So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.” We may be going to plant the seed of the gospel, or to water it and help it to develop, but without God, there will be no growth, and it will all be for nothing. We need God, and God works through prayer. Please pray for us.

· Support us financially

As church planting missionaries, we will be serving a congregation that can’t support us themselves. Your financial support helps us to serve them and the community around them. Our estimated support need is $4,300 per month. With Michael planning to work part-time at first, we will still need to raise around 50% before we can move, in addition to a one time transition fund to help us get to the field.

-Make checks payable to RSBCE and mail them to RSBCE, Box 88, Englewood, CO 80151 (make sure to add a note saying that the donation is for the Parmenters)

-You can also donate online. Go to rsbce.org, click the “Donate” button, and follow the instructions

· Be a sender

A sender is anyone who uses their God given gifts to help support us. There are many ways to support us beyond prayer and finances: using your unique skills or resources, or just taking the time to encourage us! We need people standing by our side in the challenging ministry of church planting. If you’d like to be personally involved like this, please contact us at info@thedesertspring.org. We’d love to help you find a place on our team.

But most of all, please join us in sharing the thirst-quenching Gospel with those that God has placed in your life. Be a part of God’s mission to bring life to people in a dry land.

In Jesus’ name

-Michael and Sarah Parmenter
